Hardware Design Engineer

The energy practice within the company provides a comprehensive set of IT/OT solutions and services with a focus in innovation and customer value. This company sells products and solutions to over 200 utilities in North America.
Our Design & Support Engineer will utilize knowledge of SCADA systems, both Master side and RTUs as well as communication protocols such as DNP3.0, IEC60870-5-104 and others, to test new product releases, hardware, software, and provide customer support. Will maintain system hardware including designing /updating boards as needed.
Responsibilities
  • Support customer base via troubleshooting, repair, and proactive maintenance.
  • Test new software and hardware product releases from the R&D HW team.
  • Work with customers to optimize the use of their system.
  • Work onsite with customers commissioning ACS RTU products.
  • Identify and take the necessary steps to make corrections for issues arising after installation.
  • Coordinate with the RTU team to streamline or automate processes for increased productivity enhance reliability.
  • Create shell, python and cmi scripts as required to meet customer requirements.
  • Provide instruction in all facets of Linux and SCADA operations.
  • Design / modify microprocessor-based boards to communicate over serial or Ethernet and collect data from local inputs both analog and digital.
Required Experience
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in administering, testing, maintaining, and integrating various Microprocessor based RTUs.
  • Experience understanding and troubleshooting network communications.
  • Experience developing and presenting training materials and instruction to diverse audiences.
  • Minimum 4-year Electrical Engineering Degree or equivalent.
Preferred Skills:
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally as required.
  • Advanced communication skills (comfortable with collaborating and brainstorming ideas in a team setting).
